3. Admission Requirements

a. Master’s Degree Programmes

Candidates should possess any of the following qualifications:

  1. Second Class Honours Degree of Ambrose Alli University or any other recognized University in the relevant discipline.
  2. Third Class Bachelor’s Degree plus PGD or HND with any professional qualification and appropriate PGD from a recognized University.
  3. LL.B with at least Second Class Honours or Third Class Honours with a B.L. and at least five years post-call experience for LL.M programme.
  4. For Master of Arts in French Studies, holders of B.A. or B.ED (French) with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division.
  5. For Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Public Administration (MPA), holders of a Bachelor degree not below Second Class Lower Division in any discipline OR Third Class Degree/HND plus postgraduate diploma in any administration-related discipline, plus at least one year post-qualification experience.
  6. Candidates for the M.Sc programme in Business Administration must have at least five credit passes in GCE O/L or WASCE or NECO or NABTEB, including English Language, Mathematics, and Economics or Commerce, obtained at not more than two sittings.

b. M.Phil Programme

Graduates of Ambrose Alli University with a Master’s degree in a related discipline or graduates of any other approved University with the specified qualifications.

c. Ph.D Programme

Graduates of Ambrose Alli University or any other recognized University who possess a Master’s degree appropriate to the intended course may be admitted, provided they scored an average of 60 per cent in their Master’s degree or M.Phil programme.

d. Departmental Requirements

Departments may require additional tests, interviews, examinations, or pre-requisite courses as conditions for admission. Ph.D candidates may need to fulfill qualifying examination requirements before registration.

e. Postgraduate Diplomas

Various Departments/Institutes have specific requirements for Postgraduate Diploma Programmes. For example:

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Agriculture requires a B.Sc with a third class degree in any area of Agriculture or related science disciplines.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture requires at least a Third class Hons degree in Architecture.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering (Civil, Elect/Elect, Mechanical, and Materials/Production Engineering) requires a good HND in Engineering with at least four (4) years post-qualification cognate experience or a Graduate in fields relevant to Engineering.

4. Period of Study

The duration of the courses varies:

  • Ph.D Programme (Full-Time): Minimum of three (3) academic sessions, maximum of five (5) academic sessions.
  • Ph.D Programme (Part-Time): Not less than five (5) academic sessions, maximum of eight (8) academic sessions.
  • Master’s Degree Programme (Full-Time): Minimum of three (3) Semesters, maximum of Six (6) Semesters.
